Driveway and Road Base Prep

Driveway and Road Base Prep in Waco

A newly cleared lot needs a way in. Sealaskatimber builds stable gravel driveways and access roads across Waco and McLennan County, from a short residential drive off Cobbs Drive to a long ranch road cut through fresh-cleared acreage. We prep the subgrade, lay separation fabric, and place crushed aggregate base so the surface holds up to trucks, trailers, and heavy Central Texas rain.

Why the Base Matters

Gravel spread over soft or muddy ground disappears into the soil and ruts within a season. A road that lasts starts underneath. We strip the organics, compact the subgrade, and roll out a geotextile separation fabric that keeps the clay from pumping up into the stone. Then the crushed base goes down in lifts and gets compacted, giving you a firm, well-draining surface instead of a mud track.

Our Process

We place an 811 locate first, then shape the subgrade to shed water rather than trap it. Geotextile fabric goes over the compacted soil, followed by crushed aggregate base placed and compacted to grade. A 100 foot by 10 foot drive is a straightforward job. Longer access roads through cleared timber take more base and more passes, and we scope both at the walkthrough.
